Here Are 3 Things You Can Do Right Now to Help Yourself Through the Moment
If you’re feeling lonely, especially as someone who is childless not by choice, you are not alone in this experience—even if it often feels that way. Sometimes, the hardest moments come without warning. When they do, here are three things you can do immediately to soothe your heart and mind:
1. Watch Your Favorite Comfort Show
That series you’ve seen a dozen times? Watch it again. The predictability of a well-loved show can be incredibly grounding. It’s a safe and familiar space—a distraction that doesn’t demand anything from you, but offers a comfortable sense of connection and calm.
2. Journal It Out
Writing can be a powerful release. When emotions stay stuck inside, they can create tension, stress, and even physical discomfort. Journaling helps move those feelings out of your body and onto the page. Try this: write down whatever you're ruminating on, and then end with a comforting affirmation like:
“I will be okay.”
“I will get through this.”
“This feeling is temporary.”
This practice can shift your mindset and it can take repetition, consistency, and practice.
3. Blast Your Hype MusicYes, seriously—put on the songs that make you feel hype. Think back to your favorite music from high school. Play them loud. Put them on repeat. And if you’re feeling up to it, make a playlist—yes, people still do that! (And even if they don’t, who cares? Do it anyway.) Music has a way of waking up joy, even if just for a moment—and that moment matters.
Final Thought:
You are not alone in this. Moments of loneliness do not define your whole story. Be gentle with yourself, and reach for the tools that bring you even a small sense of peace. You deserve that.
